About Thompson, H.V. & T.G. Lumber Company, Inc.
Thompson, H.V. & T.G. Lumber Company, Inc. is a sawmill in Ailey, Georgia, in Montgomery County. The business goes back to 1909, when three brothers ran a small portable sawmill on a farm three and a half miles south of town. The mill later moved to its present site in Ailey, and the third and fourth generations of the Thompson family still run it. The mill does its own sawmilling, cutting, drying and finishing on one site. It works mainly with heart pine, cypress and longleaf pine. Its lumber is locally sourced within 80 miles and kiln-dried. Products include heart pine flooring and stairs, paneling and siding, prefinished pine flooring, custom-cut timber frames and beams in longleaf pine, and pine molding. The sawmill is open to the public. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 to 5, with Saturdays by appointment only. Lumber is delivered locally and shipped nationwide. The family's own description of the work is "old-fashioned quality with personal attention to detail." It suits someone who wants pine or cypress taken from sawing through to finishing by one Montgomery County mill, especially for flooring, paneling, molding or timber beams.
