Rayonier is a large timber company based in Manor, Georgia. It is a real estate investment trust, not an independent logging outfit, and it owns more than 4 million acres of forest across 11 states. Its Southern timberlands include land in Georgia, and it has been in business for over a century. Its Southern forests grow loblolly, slash, shortleaf and longleaf pine, along with oak, maple, poplar, hickory and other hardwoods. Harvests follow long-term schedules, and methods change with the ground, from standard equipment on flat land to cable systems on steep slopes. The harvest is kept light: "We only harvest 3-4% of our timberland acreage each year." Rayonier holds the Georgia Master Timber Harvester certification, and its county is Ware. Its timber goes to its own mills and to outside customers, but it does not offer timber buying or logging to outside landowners.
