Custom Sawmilling

About Custom Sawmilling

Custom Sawmilling, LLC is a family-owned, locally operated sawmill in Rentz, Georgia. It turns logs and rough lumber into material ready for the next stage of a project. It names Laurens County as its service county and also serves homeowners, landowners, woodworkers, builders, and contractors across Georgia and select areas of North Florida. It mills yellow pine, eastern red cedar, cypress, red oak, white oak, red maple, yellow-poplar, sycamore, and cherry. Its services include custom sawmilling, lumber planing, kiln drying, V-groove and shiplap, and resawing. It takes logs 8 inches or more at the small end. Logs shorter than 8 feet or longer than 16 feet may cost extra. Work can start with logs from your own land or lumber you already have. The business does not pick up or deliver, so you bring the logs to Rentz. Call before you haul so they can talk through species, dimensions, and moisture. Mill logs within a few weeks of felling while they are still green, stack them with the large ends together, and mark any nails, wire, or rocks you find. A blade damaged by a foreign object carries a replacement fee. Milling takes several days, and the lumber then air dries for about three months or longer on 1-inch stickers. You can supply your own stickers or pay them to cut and place them. The owner, Jake Dean, received the second-place 2006 Best Business Award from Wood-Mizer. His own description of a log is "a Christmas present waiting to be unwrapped." This business suits a landowner who already has logs or lumber and wants them milled, dried, or planed close to home in Rentz. From thecustomsawyer.com, read 17 October 2026.
