Timber Buyers & Forestry Professionals in Charlevoix, MI

Moeke Forestry is a family-owned logging and timber buying business based in Boyne City, Michigan. It's been in the family for three generations, with more than a hundred years behind it in firewood, sawmill, and forestry work. The work covers logging, timber management, and forestry consulting, along with firewood. Species handled include Maple, Beech, Ash, Oak, and other dense hardwoods. On the logging side, they use a range of methods, from hand cutting to mechanical harvesters, depending on the job. For land under 5 acres they do not take on work, but they say they'll handle timber management for parcels from 5 acres up to 5000 acres. The area covered is all of Lower Michigan and the eastern half of the Upper Peninsula, with a note that they'll try to accommodate or refer you elsewhere if you're outside that. What stands out is how they frame their role for someone about to sell timber. Moeke Forestry says it will always be an "advocate for timberland owners who are in the process of selling their timber," and asks landowners to call before anyone harvests, so they can look over the sale and let you know "if it is being properly harvested and priced." This fits a landowner in Northern Michigan with a modest acreage who wants someone to look over a timber sale before signing off on it, not just a crew to come cut.
