Timber Buyers & Forestry Professionals in Delton, MI

Buskirk Lumber is a timber buyer based in Freeport, Michigan, at 319 Oak St. The family of businesses also runs a sawmill and dry kiln and offers forestry consulting. They've been buying standing timber since 1920, so over a century in the business. They buy hardwoods including basswood, beech, cherry, chestnut, fir, hickory, maple, oak, poplar, and walnut. Their services cover forest management and timber appraisal. They describe themselves as "professional licensed and bonded timber buyers." Buskirk works across Michigan's Lower Peninsula, Northern Indiana, and Northern Ohio, and for this listing serves Barry County. Here's how a sale runs with them: you reach out by phone or online, their team talks through what your woodlot needs, then a buyer comes out to assess it and gives you an offer. Once you sign the contract, they pay 10% down, with the rest of the contract value paid in full before the harvest starts. Their logging crew then does the cutting and hauls the logs to the mill. They practice selective harvesting, cutting only "mature trees that meet industry quality standards" rather than clearing a stand, and they note they work woodlots with a good volume of standing timber rather than individual yard trees, so this fits larger, more established stands rather than a handful of trees. This suits a landowner in or near Barry County with a hardwood woodlot who wants to sell direct to a sawmill, skip the broker, and have the same outfit buy, log, and mill the timber.
