Wayne Jaruzel Logging, Inc. buys standing timber, based in Millington, Michigan. Wayne Jaruzel has been doing this for more than 40 years, working with landowners to harvest and manage their woods. He buys veneer logs, saw logs, timber and lumber logs, and the trees he cuts go on to a sawmill to be made into furniture. He offers free estimates and likes to walk the property with the landowner first. That walk serves two purposes: the landowner can point out the property lines, and Wayne can talk through which trees might come out, leaving the final call to the landowner. He favors selective harvesting over clear-cutting, taking some mature and some lower-quality trees so the canopy stays intact and the woods keep growing straight. He also offers forest management and will top trees that have wide crowns so they come down safely rather than smashing everything on the way. He's based in Millington but says he'll "cut trees any where in lower Michigan," and names Tuscola County among the areas he works. Much of his work comes from referrals, and he has worked with the same hardwood mill for years. This fits a landowner who wants someone to walk the woods with them before anything gets cut, who cares more about the long-term health of the trees left standing than squeezing out every log, and who doesn't mind a business built on word of mouth rather than a big outfit.
