Fly Timber Co is a sawmill in Grenada, Mississippi, at 2178 Highway 7 N. The yard is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the phone is (662) 226-2276. The company also buys timber and land, and leases land for hunting and other outdoor use. It has been in business for over 40 years, starting in 1981 in Coffeeville with a single logging crew. If you have hardwood or pine to sell, Fly Timber buys land and timber to harvest those trees and manages the work on the land. Josh Angle and Tyler Angle handle timber and land purchases, and each has a direct line listed. The company names Northern Mississippi as its area, and all its lumber is sourced within 200 miles of the sawmill. The mill cuts hardwood, pulpwood, lumber, railroad ties, industrial timbers, cants, flooring and paneling. Species include Red Oak, White Oak, Ash, Poplar, Hickory, Cottonwood, Cedar and Cypress. A newer hardwood sawmill was built to replace three smaller mills, and it makes cross ties, long timbers, crane mat material and hardwood grade lumber. One client's view on the service: "You're treated like family here." This suits a landowner in north Mississippi with hardwood or pine who wants one outfit that buys timber, handles the harvest and mills the wood, or who is looking to sell or lease land. Sawmill

Hankins Lumber is a family sawmill in Grenada, Mississippi. It started in the 1950s as a small trucking company run by Burton and Bewel Hankins, who bought a planer mill in Winona and began making their own lumber. Today the company employs 155 workers and manufactures more than 150 million feet of lumber a year from southern yellow pine. For a landowner, the useful part is that the company is looking to buy. In its own words, "We are always activity looking to purchase timber or land with pine timber." It also grows its own pine on tens of thousands of acres of tree farms across Mississippi, and sells graded lumber mainly to outlets in Texas and other midwestern states. The office is at 496 E Nat G Troutt Rd, Grenada, MS 38901, and the phone number is 662 294-3050. It suits a landowner with pine timber who would rather sell to a family mill that also grows its own pine. From hankinslumber.com, read 17 October 2026.

Questions landowners ask

How many timber buyers and foresters serve Grenada County?

12 businesses are listed for Grenada County: 9 consulting foresters and 3 buyers, loggers and mills. 4 of them have offices in the county.

How much is my timber worth in Grenada County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. Mississippi State University Extension Service publishes the quarterly Mississippi Timber Price Report, state-wide average stumpage in $/ton, which tells you what the market is doing, not what your tract holds. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

What stumpage value means →

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Grenada County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

Do I need a forestry consultant? →

Do I need a permit to cut timber in Mississippi?

Mississippi has no statewide permit and no notification to harvest timber on your own land — the article of the state code that once regulated forest harvesting was repealed in 2017, and the Forestry Commission's own step-by-step harvest guidance has no permit or notice step in it. Best Management Practices are published by the Forestry Commission and the state calls their use voluntary, but voluntary is not the same as unenforceable: Mississippi law makes it unlawful to cause pollution of state waters, the Department of Environmental Quality investigates and enforces against harvests that do, and the federal Clean Water Act exemption for forest roads and site preparation depends on following the mandatory practices. Counties have less room here than in Georgia or Alabama — since 16 March 2018 no Mississippi county or municipality may adopt an ordinance restricting forestry activity on agricultural land — but ordinances already in place before that date still stand, so check with your county before work starts. One more thing worth knowing: if someone cuts your trees without your consent, Mississippi sets the damages at double the fair market value of the timber plus the cost of replanting, and an honest mistake is not a defence.

What is timber worth in Grenada County?

No price series is published for Grenada County on its own. Mississippi's latest published stumpage figures (Mississippi State University Extension, Q2 2026) put oak sawtimber at $57.35 per ton. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.

Forester listings for Grenada County come from the Mississippi Board of Registration for Foresters consulting forester roster, the Forest Products Network (SREF) mill directory and the Mississippi Forestry Commission forestry vendors directory, revised 22-Sep-26. The register is updated quarterly.
