South Bloomingville, WI

Albright Saw Co, also doing business as Frickco, Inc., is based in South Bloomingville, Ohio. This isn't a place that buys standing timber or runs logging jobs on your land. It's a sawmill manufacturer and dealer, the kind of shop that builds and sells the equipment a mill operator would use. If you're looking for someone to walk your woods and talk about cutting trees, this isn't that. Albright Saw Co says plainly that "if you are looking for manufacturers of quality sawmills and sawmill accessories, you've come to the right place." They build sawmills and related gear like log turners, edgers, live rolls, and setworks. In June 1993 they became the area's authorized dealer for Frickco, Inc., and they carry "immediate access to FRICKCO, INC.'s large inventory of parts for Frick mills," including tracks, wheels, head blocks, and carriage frames. They're listed as serving Vinton County. This fits a landowner, or more likely a small mill owner, who already has a sawmill running or is building one and needs the machine itself, or parts to keep an old Frick mill going, not someone with standing timber looking for a buyer or logger. NWH buys logs and standing timber, and also does the logging work itself. The company is headquartered in Dallas, and was "established in 1967." They buy a set list of hardwoods: Alder, Ash, Basswood, Cherry, Chestnut Oak, Hard Maple, Hickory, Pacific Coast Maple, Poplar, Red Oak, Soft Maple, Walnut, White Oak, and Yellow Birch. The areas they name for buying include Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, with Preston County, WV broken out by name, including Kingwood, Terra Alta, Bruceton Mills, Masontown, Tunnelton, Rowlesburg, Reedsville, Albright, Newburg, Brandonville, and Aurora. Their process runs in four steps: consulting and evaluation, a detailed estimate, an agreement with payment terms, and then the harvest itself. They describe this last step as handling it "with respect for your land," and compliance with state Best Management Practices for the harvest. They state a minimum of 10 acres to harvest, in their own words: "We work closely with landowners who have a minimum of 10 acres to harvest to evaluate your timber and understand your land's unique needs." This fits a landowner with at least 10 acres of one of their listed hardwood species, in or near the states and counties they name, who wants one company to buy the timber and also run the logging. Travco Lumber Company, LLC is a sawmill and timber buyer based in McArthur, Ohio. They buy logs at four mill locations, including their McArthur yard on Frazee Lane, and they also send out traveling foresters to purchase standing timber. As they put it, their forester "will purchase your standing timber and will take care of harvesting the timber," so you are not left finding a separate logger once you have a buyer. They work in Walnut, White Oak, Hickory, Red Oak, and Hard Maple, buying both veneer logs and saw logs, with their own wood spec sheets setting out what grade a log needs to be for veneer versus lumber production. Their current forester for standing timber purchases is Brandon Byers. Besides the McArthur mill, they name Waverly, Bainbridge, and Peebles, Ohio as locations, and they are shown serving Vinton County. The company's roots go back to 1984, when George Bach Jr. founded East Ohio Lumber after growing up in his father's sawmill business. George acquired Travco Lumber Company in 2013. This fits a landowner with good hardwood timber, especially Walnut or oak, who wants one phone call to cover both the standing timber sale and the harvest itself. How many timber buyers and foresters serve Vinton County?

6 businesses are listed for Vinton County: 0 consulting foresters and 6 buyers, loggers and mills. None of them has an office in the county; they register to work here and travel in.

How much is my timber worth in Vinton County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Vinton County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

What is timber worth in Vinton County?

No price series is published for Vinton County on its own. Ohio's latest published stumpage figures (Ohio State University Extension, with the Ohio Division of Forestry, March–May 2026) put white oak at $700–$1,200 per thousand board feet.
