Forest Inn Kiln is a sawmill and millwork shop in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, in Carbon County, run by Lynn and Nancy Byerley. Lynn came out of home building and remodeling, and as his jobs got more custom he had trouble finding the materials he wanted, so he started this shop to supply them himself. Nancy handles the office side and works in the shop too. The work here is milling and finishing wood, not buying standing timber. They stock kiln dried hardwoods "of numerous species of varied widths, lengths and thicknesses" along with poplar, and they can source veneered plywoods within about a week if they don't have it on hand. In the shop they do planing, straight line edging, flat sanding, S4S work, custom moldings (over 60 profiles), staircase parts, cabinet doors, and finishing with their own spray booth. They say they can build "mantels, beams, bar tops" or whatever a project calls for, and they also take in tools as a drop off point for sharpening. They work with builders, remodelers, interior designers, do it yourself homeowners, and crafters. The store is open Saturdays 8 to 2, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, with other hours by appointment. It's cash or check only, no credit cards. This fits a landowner who already has logs or rough lumber and wants it kiln dried, milled, and finished into something specific, rather than someone looking for help selling standing timber off their acres. Questions landowners ask
How many timber buyers and foresters serve Carbon County?
2 businesses are listed for Carbon County: 0 consulting foresters and 2 buyers, loggers and mills. 2 of them have offices in the county.
How much is my timber worth in Carbon County?
Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.
What stumpage value means →Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Carbon County?
You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.
Do I need a forestry consultant? →What is timber worth in Carbon County?
No price series is published for Carbon County on its own. Pennsylvania's latest published stumpage figures (Penn State Extension, Q1 2026) put black cherry at $255–$848 per thousand board feet. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.
