Bricker Lumber Co LLC is a sawmill in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. They're a third-generation family business, "founded in 1957 on our grandfather's farm," and they buy standing timber, log it, and mill it themselves. They take on custom sawing, logging and clearing, kiln drying, custom lumber orders, and buying timber outright. On the logging side they do select cutting, clear cutting, and food plot opening, using mechanized equipment. Trees are felled, skidded to a loading area, cut, and trucked to the mill, with site work done for haul roads or stream crossings where a tract needs it. They work in red oak, white oak, poplar, birch, maple, ash, cherry, pine, black walnut, and smaller amounts of sycamore, sassafras, elm, black locust, hemlock, and catalpa, plus exotic woods. Kiln drying runs lumber down to 6 to 10 percent moisture using their own kiln. If you own five acres or more of merchantable timber, they'll come look it over and give you an estimate, with no obligation. They buy and harvest within a 60-mile radius of the mill and name Franklin County as served. Payment can be set up on an upfront and regular schedule to suit you, and your job is mainly making sure the marked trees are really yours to sell. This fits a landowner in or near Franklin County with at least five acres who wants one outfit to buy the timber, log it, and also mill lumber for their own use. D&D Sawmill Services is a sawmill equipment and parts business in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, serving Franklin County. They are not a logging outfit or timber buyer. Instead they make and supply parts for sawmill machinery, mainly for Frick brand mills, and they build their own line of equipment called D.L. Helfrick. The work covers equipment rebuilds, machinery sourcing, and consulting, along with building and remanufacturing sawmill carriages, headrigs, and edgers. They stock new, used, and remanufactured parts, including saws, belts, bearings, chains, and mill controls. Their millwrights do both shop work and on-site service and repair, and they back their products with technical support by phone. The company describes itself as "FAMILY OWNED & OPERATED so we treat your business as if it was our own." Founded in 1979 by Donald Helfrick, who started as an on-road millwright in 1976, the business has been running in Chambersburg for decades and is now also run by the next generation of the family. This one is for a landowner who already has a mill, or works with one, and needs parts, rebuilds, or machinery know-how, not someone looking to sell standing timber or hire a logger. How much is my timber worth in Franklin County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Franklin County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

What is timber worth in Franklin County?

No price series is published for Franklin County on its own. Pennsylvania's latest published stumpage figures (Penn State Extension, Q1 2026) put black cherry at $255–$848 per thousand board feet. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.
