Jordan Lumber Co
About Jordan Lumber Co
Jordan Lumber Co is a family-owned sawmill in Mt. Gilead, founded in 1939. It cuts Southern Yellow Pine into lumber for framing, decking, fencing, flooring, siding and kiln sticks. They describe themselves as one of the largest privately held lumber companies in the United States. Southern Yellow Pine is the only species they name, and every product is cut from it. The company holds Forest Stewardship Council certification (FSC C127617) and says FSC certified products are available on request. They plant about 1.2 million Southern Yellow Pine seedlings each year. Their gallery puts it this way: "Planted With Purpose." The contact page lists a Timber Purchasing subject, a Forestry and TSI desk, and a Timberlands Management desk, each with its own phone number. Ask those desks how a timber sale would run, and what size of tract they will look at. The main line is 910-439-6121, open Monday to Thursday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and Friday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. This suits a landowner who wants to sell pine to a family sawmill with a planting program and forest certification, and who is ready to talk with the forestry desk first.
