About Canal Wood LLC

Canal Wood LLC is a timber buying, logging, and forestry company based in Conway, South Carolina. It buys standing timber, markets it to mills, and handles the harvest and haul. The firm says it was founded in 1937 and calls itself the largest independent timber merchant in the Southeast. The work covers timber marketing and management, timber harvesting, forest management, and harvest planning. They also do inspections, mapping, aerial and satellite photography, and infrared photography to identify tree species. Appraisals and marketing recommendations are on the list too. Their stated process starts with a consultation and an assessment of each stand, working out what the owner wants. From there they look for the best price for each type of wood, then harvest and transport it to the mills. They say they act as a "single point of contact" for all timber management and buying needs. The wood types they name are veneer logs, sawtimber, chip-n-saw, pulpwood, and fuel chips, in mixed hardwood and pine stands, pine plantations, and bottomland hardwoods. Their smallest shown job is the Maxton 510 Tract, 10.03 acres of mixed hardwood and pine in Scotland County, North Carolina, so the 10-acre figure comes from that job, not from a stated policy. They serve landowners and mills in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, with more than 40 regional and field offices and over 100 timber buyers on staff. They say they are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This suits a landowner with a wooded tract in one of those seven states who wants one firm to assess the stands, sell the wood, and manage the cut. From canalwood.com, read 3 October 2026.
