Corley Manufacturing Co is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This isn't a business that buys timber or logs your land. It builds the machinery that sawmills run on: carriages, band mills, edgers and gangs, resaws, log turners, and trimmers. They also take on contract manufacturing and full engineering and project management for mill builds. If you're a landowner with trees to sell, this isn't who you'd call. Corley works the other end of the business, supplying "rugged, up to date, dependable machinery to the sawmill industry" and building sawmills from the ground up, with process design, engineering, construction, and equipment all under one roof. They say they've completed over 20 sawmills since 1990. They've been at it since 1905, "since 1905 we have focused our efforts exclusively on serving sawmillers." That's over a century of making the machines, not buying the trees. This fits sawmill owners and operators planning new equipment or a new mill, not landowners looking to sell standing timber or get a harvest done. From corleymfg.com, read 3 October 2026.

Questions landowners ask

How many timber buyers and foresters serve Hamilton County?

2 businesses are listed for Hamilton County: 1 consulting forester and 1 buyer, logger or mill. 2 of them have offices in the county.

How much is my timber worth in Hamilton County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Hamilton County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

Best Management Practices for water quality are voluntary, though state environmental regulators can step in if a harvest actually causes a water-quality problem.
