About Pacific Rim Tonewoods

Pacific Rim Tonewoods is a mill in Concrete, Washington, serving Skagit County. It has supplied tonewood to luthiers and guitar makers for over 35 years. It mills and grades wood for guitar building, and its line includes soundboards, back and side sets, bindings, mandolins, arch tops and ukulele sets. Species on its pages include Sitka spruce, Lutz spruce, koa, redwood and quilted maple. Its boards come in what it calls sonically graded and traditionally graded lots, and it also sells torrefied and thermally modified wood. It also cuts kiln-dried bowl cores for bowl turners, using a bowl core lathe at the mill. The company also grows trees of its own, and as its pages put it, "We’re also growing trees." It suits a luthier or guitar maker who wants graded tonewood delivered to the bench. A landowner with standing timber to sell is looking for a different kind of buyer.
