About City Trees Furniture
City Trees Furniture is a furniture maker in Seattle, Washington. It salvages logs from hardwood trees cut down in and around Seattle, mills them into slabs, and makes live edge tables, river tables, desks, benches, and coffee tables from them. Donald Smith founded the business in 2005. He owns it and is the craftsman who works with every tree and log. The logs are milled into slabs, generally kept as wide as possible, up to five feet across. The slabs are air dried for up to three years, then kiln dried. Walnut, and especially black walnut, is the most popular wood. Elm, madrona, and maple are also used, and the current table listings include sycamore. Each piece gets a clear finish so the grain and natural color show, and the work rests on the idea that "nature is the artist." To see the current inventory, call Donald Smith at 206.499.8757 and schedule an appointment. This suits a Seattle-area landowner who has walnut, elm, or maple trees taken down and would rather see the logs turned into furniture than chipped or turned into firewood.
