Sunset Forestry LLC is a forestry consulting business in Oregon, Wisconsin, run by John Gritt. It is "a consulting company specializing in land management planning & timber sale establishment." The work covers forest management plans, forest inventory and mapping, timber sale establishment with marking, bidding and administration, appraisals for land, timber, or damage and trespass, and property walkthroughs for education and tree ID. John Gritt worked as a Wisconsin DNR Forester from 2006 to 2011 before starting this business in 2011, and holds credentials as a Wisconsin DNR Cooperating Forester, a Certified Plan Writer for Managed Forest Law (MFL), and a Technical Service Provider with NRCS. He also writes Managed Forest Law and Stewardship plans, and notes that state or federal grants can sometimes help cover costs. Rates are set up by job type: MFL or Stewardship plans typically run $800 plus $8 per acre or the approved amount under EQIP funding, and timber sale establishment is typically billed at $125 an hour plus paint. This fits a landowner in Dane County who wants a plan written, a timber sale set up and administered, or a straight answer on what their trees are worth, especially if they want to see if a grant can help pay for the plan.
