About Bearden Lumber Co

Bearden Lumber Co runs a sawmill and timberland management operation out of Bearden, Arkansas, trading as Anthony Timberlands, Inc. It manages more than 200,000 acres of South Arkansas timberland, mostly in Ouachita County, with pine and hardwood stands. The work includes "selective harvesting," uneven-aged management, prescribed burning, and chemical control of herbaceous weeds. Only mature or defective trees are harvested, with younger trees left standing so the forest can regenerate on its own; clear-cutting, site prep, and full replanting happen only when natural regrowth falls short. Ten graduate foresters oversee the land, backed by forestry technicians, surveyors, and line maintenance crews. Harvesting follows Best Management Practices set by the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and the managed timberland is certified by the American Tree Farm System. The land is run on a "multiple use concept," balancing timber growth with wildlife habitat, scenic and recreational quality, and watershed protection. Anthony Timberlands has been at this for over 110 years. Sales contacts are split out by product line, with separate staff handling softwood, hardwood, and general timberland management questions, all based out of the Bearden office. This fits a landowner with a sizable South Arkansas tract who wants ongoing forest management and a long relationship with the land, not just a single harvest and a check.
