About Salvage Sawmill

Salvage Sawmill is a mill and timber buyer based in Nevada City, California. They take storm damaged, dead, or otherwise "in the way" trees and turn them into usable lumber, working with Cedar, Redwood, and all hardwoods. If you've got logs on the ground, they'll do log recovery, and if the logs are millable they'll remove them for free. To qualify, logs need to be relatively straight, free of decay, at least 16 inches in diameter, and 8 to 20 feet long, though they may take shorter pieces of unusual or burl wood. From there they offer portable mobile milling right at your site, using a mill that can handle logs up to 36 inches across and 21 feet long. If your job is smaller, you can also haul logs to their Penn Valley yard for on-site milling at a lower rate. Every job starts with a free on-site consultation to plan things out before they arrive. They also keep lumber in stock or will cut to order, and through a sister operation they build custom furniture from the wood they mill. They serve Nevada County, naming Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, and Auburn along with the surrounding Northern California area as their working ground. This fits a landowner with a downed or dying tree, maybe storm damage or fire-thinning work, who wants to see that wood turned into something useful rather than hauled off or burned, especially if the logs are large enough to be worth milling.
