Manor, GA

B & M Wood Products, Inc. is a sawmill at 4137 Manor Millwood Road in Manor, Georgia, in South Georgia. Fred Blackledge and Roy Musgrove founded it in 1966, and it has operated since then. It works in Southern Yellow Pine and serves Ware County and clients across the continental United States. It makes pressure-treated round fence posts and poles, untreated rough-sawn timber in standard sizes, pressure-treated rough-sawn timber, and creosote-treated fencing materials. It also treats wood you bring in, with CCA .40 ground contact or .60, or with creosote at 8, 10 or 12 pound. Federal law limits CCA treatment to sawn wood that is 6 by 6 nominal. Special orders need a 50% deposit when you order, and that deposit is not refundable. B & M ran its own tree-cutting crews from 1990 until 2019, when it sold that operation and began buying wood on the open market. Sawmilling is its main trade, and timber buying is its other. You can call them at 912.283.0353. It suits a landowner who wants Southern Yellow Pine posts, poles or lumber, or who has pine of their own that needs treating, more than one who wants a crew to come in and cut a stand. Rayonier is a large timber company based in Manor, Georgia. It is a real estate investment trust, not an independent logging outfit, and it owns more than 4 million acres of forest across 11 states. Its Southern timberlands include land in Georgia, and it has been in business for over a century. Its Southern forests grow loblolly, slash, shortleaf and longleaf pine, along with oak, maple, poplar, hickory and other hardwoods. Harvests follow long-term schedules, and methods change with the ground, from standard equipment on flat land to cable systems on steep slopes. The harvest is kept light: "We only harvest 3-4% of our timberland acreage each year." Rayonier holds the Georgia Master Timber Harvester certification, and its county is Ware. Its timber goes to its own mills and to outside customers, but it does not offer timber buying or logging to outside landowners. It suits a landowner who wants a big timber company on the other side of the table, not a local crew to hire for a small cut. From rayonier.com, read 4 October 2026.

Rayonier is a large timber company in Waycross, Georgia, and it operates as a real estate investment trust. It owns timberland and wood products facilities in several states. It does not offer timber buying or logging services to outside landowners, so a private owner looking for someone to buy or cut a few acres will not find that here. Its holdings top 4 million acres across 11 states, and about 3.15 million of those acres are in the U.S. South, including Georgia. Southern species include loblolly, slash, shortleaf and longleaf pine, along with oak, maple, poplar and hickory. It thins crowded stands and harvests on long schedules, using standard equipment on flat ground and cable systems on steep slopes. It harvests only 3-4% of its timberland acreage each year. The business holds Georgia Master Timber Harvester certification, and Ware County is the county it serves here. Its forestry practices are independently audited for certification. Its head office is soon to move to Atlanta, Georgia. This suits a landowner who wants to understand how a large timber company runs its own land, not one who needs a buyer or logging crew for their own trees. From rayonier.com, read 4 October 2026.

Questions landowners ask

How many timber buyers and foresters serve Ware County?

11 businesses are listed for Ware County: 0 consulting foresters and 11 buyers, loggers and mills. 10 of them have offices in the county.

How much is my timber worth in Ware County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. University of Georgia Extension publishes an annual timber situation and outlook report with recent quarterly figures, which tells you what the market is doing, not what your tract holds. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Ware County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

Do I need a forestry consultant? →

Do I need a permit to cut timber in Georgia?

Georgia has no statewide permit for cutting timber on your own land, and state law forbids a county to require one or to charge a fee for a timber harvest notification. What a county may require is the notification itself: where its ordinance calls for one, the harvester files it before entering the property if possible and no later than 24 hours after entering, and the county may ask for a bond of up to $5,000 against damage to its roads. Not every county has an ordinance, so check with yours before work starts. Georgia's Best Management Practices are not a permit programme, but following them is how a harvest stays clear of the water-quality law that is enforceable.

What is timber worth in Ware County?

No price series is published for Ware County on its own. Georgia's latest published stumpage figures (University of Georgia Extension, Q3 2025) put mixed hardwood sawtimber at $26–$32 per ton. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.
