Les Bois Milling
About Les Bois Milling
Les Bois Milling is a sawmill in Boise, Idaho, serving Ada County. It mills trees that come down in the Boise area into live edge slabs, kiln dried wood, and offers slab flattening for customers who want a flat, ready-to-use board. The owner, Zane Everman, launched Les Bois Milling in the spring, working with community forestry programs, tree care professionals and the public so trees don't end up at the landfill. Species they've worked with include Silver Maple, Scots Pine, Russian Olive, Black Walnut, Ash, Oak, American Chestnut, Elm, Spruce and Sequoia. They say they "specialize in live edge slabs from trees collected and milled right here in the City of Trees," and keep things close to home: the farthest a tree has come from is Nampa. Once milled, wood goes into their own kiln to dry slowly, which they say prevents warping and cracking, and large slabs can be flattened on site. Their inventory app, AncesTREE, tracks where a given piece of wood came from, including the tree's age and moisture content. This fits a landowner near Boise or Nampa who has a single tree coming down on their property and wants it turned into slabs or lumber rather than hauled to the landfill, not someone selling standing timber off acreage.
