About Fannin's Sawmill, Inc.
Fannin's Sawmill, Inc. runs a commercial sawmill at Elk Fork on Hwy. 172 near West Liberty, Kentucky, in Morgan County. It's a mill, not a logging crew, so the work here is turning logs into lumber and other wood products once they've been cut and hauled in. They take in both hardwood and softwood logs, including ash, red oak, white oak, yellow poplar, hickory, hard maple, mixed hardwoods, soft maple, southern yellow pine, and walnut. From those logs they produce green lumber, fence and frame stock lumber, pallet cants, crossties, bark mulch, chips, industrial fuel from dust and bark, and residue for charcoal. The mill runs a circle headsaw with an automatic set carriage, along with an edger, trimmer, debarker, and residue chipper. Logs are brought to them delivered, and production falls in the 1 to 3 MMBDFT class. The operation employs 16 people and serves Morgan County. This fits a landowner who already has logs cut and delivered and wants a mill to turn them into rough lumber, mulch, or chips, rather than someone looking for help marking or harvesting standing timber.
