About Ohio Valley Chipping

Ohio Valley Chipping is a chip mill in Greenup, Kentucky, right along the Ohio River. It is part of the Ohio Valley Veneer family of operations, started in 2003 by Ed Robbins. This yard does not saw lumber. It takes in pulpwood logs, hardwood and softwood both, and runs them through an 83 inch four-knife chipper. From there the chips go out either by barge down the river or by semi truck. The chips are produced for paper manufacturer clients, named as Pixelle in Chillicothe, Ohio and Domtar in Hawesville, Kentucky. The mill turns out around 120,000 tons of chips a year. The broader Ohio Valley Veneer operation, which runs this chip mill alongside several sawmills, describes itself as specializing in "the timbering and cutting of hardwoods," and holds timberland and contracts across Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. For this Greenup location specifically, the county served is Greenup, Kentucky. This listing is for landowners whose property is mostly pulpwood-grade timber rather than sawlog-quality hardwood, and who are close enough to the Ohio River corridor near Greenup to move logs there for chipping rather than milling.
