Forest Through Finish
About Forest Through Finish
Forest THROUGH Finish is a sawmill and woodworking shop in Loretto, Minnesota. It saws logs on a bandsaw mill and turns them into slabs, lumber, furniture and timber frame pieces. You can bring in your own log to be sawn and kiln-dried for your use, bring lumber to be dried, choose kiln-dried slabs from its inventory, or have a finished piece made. The business buys the most highly figured logs, the ones with knots and other marks in the grain. It buys them from loggers' yards or as standing trees, then picks them up or has them delivered. The logs are stickered and air-dried for anywhere from one week to three years, then dried down to 6 to 8 percent moisture in a vacuum kiln. The species it works with include black cherry, black walnut, spalted soft maple, white and red oak, black or brown ash, white pine, and oak or Douglas fir. Its finished work is aimed at people who want something lasting. The page calls its furniture "heirloom quality," and it says woodworkers, designers, architects and furniture makers from across the United States have bought wood from it. It suits a landowner with a black walnut, black cherry or oak tree who wants the wood sawn and dried, and perhaps made into furniture, by a mill that handles the work from the stump to the finished piece.
