Run of the Mill is a woodworking shop and sawmill in Mankato, Minnesota, run by owner John Kaliski. The shop is in Good Thunder and the office is in Mankato. It works in Blue Earth County. Its main business is custom solid wood furniture, including live edge pieces built to a customer's own design. The shop says it "know[s] wood," and it has been building custom solid wood furniture for many years. Customers can also use the shop for part of a job. It saws logs, dries wood in a kiln, and finishes wood, all on an a la carte basis. It works with hardwoods and names walnut specifically. A customer's 3.5 inch live edge walnut mantel and wood seats for a set of swings are two jobs its testimonials describe. The shop keeps several hundred live edge slabs on hand, most about 3 inches thick with two live edges, and they have been kiln dried. The shop builds each project one at a time. Its solid wood furniture is made from trees taken down in neighborhoods because of hazard or declining health. Its own phrase for this is "Turning Trees to Treasures." Run of the Mill suits a landowner who has a hardwood tree down or coming down, walnut especially, and wants the wood sawn, dried and made into furniture or a slab to keep.
