Wood from the Hood
About Wood from the Hood
Wood From the Hood is a sawmill and woodworking shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It turns logs from fallen urban trees into hardwood lumber, live edge slabs, and custom pieces such as communal tables, cribbage boards and growth charts. The idea came to owners Rick and Cindy Siewert as they watched an old ash tree come down in their own backyard. Their family has a history in commercial cabinetry going back to 1965. The shop works with ash and walnut, among other species, and it takes in logs from Minneapolis neighborhoods and the wider Twin Cities. Each log is marked with "the zip code of the neighborhood where the tree once lived," and that code stays with the wood through milling. Sawmill and kiln work has a 500 board foot minimum order. Custom design work is open to architects, designers and homeowners, and the shop offers complimentary consults. The lumber store at 2616 Minnehaha Ave is open Wednesday through Saturday, and slabs are viewed by appointment at (612) 581-0252. It suits a Minneapolis homeowner with a fallen ash or walnut tree who wants the wood milled and put to use. From woodfromthehood.com, read 8 October 2026.
