L&K Hardwoods is a sawmill in Independence, Missouri, run by Larry and Cammie. They work in hardwood and walnut, offering custom milling, kiln drying, and custom furniture. They are located in Eastern Jackson County, at the historic Blue Mills Grist Mill Site, and serve Jackson County. If you bring them a log, they cut it on a Timberking 6000 band saw mill that handles logs "up 60 inches & 18 feet long." All logs have to be 8 feet long or longer for them to mill, and they ask that the log owner be present for the work. Milling is booked in 3 hour increments, but you are only charged for the hours actually used. For drying, they run an IDry Vacuum Kiln, with the process taking about two weeks on average, longer depending on species and moisture. Lumber needs to be stickered and ready before it goes in, or there's an added fee for them to do it. Appointments are booked ahead of time rather than walk-in. This is not a timber buying or logging outfit. It is a mill and shop, the kind of place you'd use once you already have logs down and want them cut, dried, or turned into something, including custom furniture work. Good fit for a landowner who has wood on the ground or standing timber already cut, and wants it milled and dried close to home in the Independence area, rather than someone still looking for a buyer to harvest standing timber.
