buy both standing timber and logscut your logs at a reasonable costmanufacture of hardwood and softwood lumberslab wood and firewood

Creveling Sawmill is a sawmill in Washington, New Jersey, working out of Warren County. The mill was started in 1962 and has been sawing hardwood and softwood lumber since. They buy both standing timber and logs, though log buying at the mill is the main business and standing timber is more of a side line. They need volume to make it worth their while: "we would need 10 or 12 trees (20-30 logs) to make it viable," so what you have has to add up to a truckload. Right now they are buying oak, locust, and sometimes tulip poplar for that purpose. Logs need to be piled where a log loader can reach them, since the hauling is subcontracted out. They'll also cut your own logs for a fee if milling is all you need. Besides sawing, they sell slab wood and firewood, delivered within 20 miles of the mill. Their lumber covers a wide range of species: Oak, Ash, Maple, Hickory, Locust, Poplar, Yellow Pine, Spruce, Larch, Hemlock, Cherry, Walnut, and Birch. Beyond Warren County, they work into New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland. The family sums up the business as "Logs to Lumber plus a couple of other things." That fits a landowner who has enough standing timber or cut logs to fill a truckload of oak, locust, or tulip poplar, more than someone with just a tree or two to sell. Stewart's Sawmill & Woodcraft is a sawmill and woodworking shop in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Phil and Courtney Stewart run it as a husband and wife team, and they bring years in the construction industry and custom woodworking to the work. They describe their mill as "one of the largest mills in the state of New Jersey." They mill their own lumber on site, including dimensional lumber, slabs for custom furniture, and made to order beams. Their on site kiln dries the milled lumber, and the species they name are premium hardwoods. After milling, they flatten and finish pieces in their own finishing shop, make custom designs with CO2 lasers and engraving machines, and offer delivery and installation for jobs like floating shelves, mantels, and kitchen islands. They also sell firewood, with 1/3 or full chord available for pickup or delivery, and kiln dried firewood on request. They guarantee full satisfaction and stay in touch with each client from the first inquiry to the final delivery. This suits a landowner in Atlantic County who wants lumber, slabs, or finished pieces made from hardwood, and who is comparing mills and shops rather than looking to sell standing timber. Pops Barn is a working sawmill and slab yard in Byram Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, run on a 12-acre compound with a pole barn, millhouse and kiln container on site. It mills, dries, flattens and builds, start to finish, and most of what it sells is slabs cut from its own logs. If you've got standing timber or a log on the ground, this is a place that will take it. "Got a tree down? We take logs," and they'll run it on the Norwood HD36 bandsaw or the Lucas slabber, which opens pieces up to 76 inches wide, wider than most mills can handle. Species they work in include black walnut, white oak, red oak, cherry, ambrosia maple, shagbark hickory, hard and soft maple, red elm, poplar, eastern red cedar, black locust, white ash, beech, birch and pitch pine. Custom milling is priced by the job, with a call first before you drive out, since it's a working yard and not a retail counter: "Call or text before you drive out. It's a sawmill, not a store with a greeter." After milling, wood can go into the iDry AIR kiln, then get flattened and surfaced, or go further into finished pieces, tables, mantels, beams, CNC signs and carving, all done on site without farming work out. Pops Barn serves Sussex County directly, with its regular pickup and delivery reach covering Sussex, Morris, Warren, Passaic, Bergen, Essex and Hunterdon counties, plus curbside delivery into North Jersey and New York City. Founder Bob Gockeler runs it as a Norwood sawmill ambassador, and the business has operated since 2023. This suits a landowner near Sussex County who wants their own log milled into something they'll actually use or sell, not just a stumpage check. From pops-barn.com, read 10 October 2026.

Boro Sawmill & Timber Company is a sawmill in Wayne, New Jersey, at 139 Ryerson Avenue. It has been milling lumber and timber since 1925, and it calls itself a business that is "Crafting timber. Building trust. Since 1925." This is not a buyer of standing timber or a logging outfit. It's a grading mill that takes in wood and turns it into heavy timbers, posts and poles, float stages and crane mats, crating, and custom-milled orders cut to a customer's own specifications. It works in softwoods like Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Southern Yellow Pine, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and Atlantic White Cedar, and in hardwoods including Red Oak, White Oak, Black Locust, and tropical hardwoods. It stocks a full inventory in both common and clear grades, and it's FSC certified, offering FSC certified lumber and timber. It also fabricates custom pieces, saying its sawyers and fabricators "can make almost anything out of wood." Its listed service area is Passaic County, and it shows up in directory records out of Bergen County as well. On its own pages it describes supplying wholesale and retail lumberyards up and down the east coast, nationwide, and overseas, rather than buying timber directly off a landowner's property. This fits a landowner who already has logs or heavy timber to have custom milled, or who wants cut lumber, posts, poles, or crane mats made to order, not someone looking for a buyer to walk their woods and make an offer on standing trees. Live-edge slabsFlitch setsDimensional lumber

Maxwell Timber Products is a working saw mill and lumber yard on US 206 in Tabernacle, New Jersey. It mills logs into live-edge slabs, flitches and boards, "for furniture builders, contractors and makers." The work on offer is live-edge slabs, flitch sets, and dimensional lumber, cut from walnut, ash, spalted maple, poplar, and other domestic and exotic hardwoods. Stock in the yard changes, so you send your species, sizes, and project, and Maxwell Timber Products confirms what's available and holds it for you. Logs are sawn right there in Tabernacle, then stacked in the yard and shown in the showroom. Pickup is at the yard by arrangement, and they ask that you call or send an inquiry before driving out. The yard is at 1300 US 206, Tabernacle, with Burlington County named as served. Maxwell Timber Products has operated since it was established in 2023. This fits a landowner, builder, or maker who already knows what species and dimensions they want and is looking for a nearby mill to cut it, rather than someone who needs their standing timber appraised, bought, or harvested off the land. Timbercraft Lumber and Design is a sawmill and timber supplier in Deptford, New Jersey. They mill and sell untreated Eastern white pine timbers and rough-sawn pine beams, along with green lumber in pine, oak, and other hardwoods, for barns, sheds, pavilions, pergolas, and other outdoor structures. Their timber work covers common structural sizes like 6x6 and 8x8, plus custom-cut dimensions and lengths depending on the project and what logs are on hand. Timbers are sold green, "freshly sawn," unless a project calls for something else. They also run sawmill services for people bringing in their own logs, including custom milling, planing, and resawing, and they take on custom timber design and CAD drawing work for structures like pergolas and picnic tables. They say they'll help with "one timber, a small order, or custom-cut material for a larger project." They serve Gloucester County and describe themselves as covering South Jersey and the surrounding area from their Deptford base. They're a family-owned shop. This fits a landowner with pine or hardwood logs already down or standing timber they want milled into usable beams and lumber, rather than someone looking to sell standing timber outright for cash. Questions landowners ask

How many mills are there in New Jersey?

22 are listed on TimberClear, sourced from the New Jersey forestry register, covering 9 counties between them.

How do I choose between them?

Start local and get more than one. A business based in your county knows the mills and the ground; one registered for all one hundred counties may be three hours away. Every listing here shows how far its office is from the county you are looking at, so "will travel" is never mistaken for "is local". TimberClear has not vetted, verified or endorsed anybody on this site.
