Specialty Wood Supply, also known as Stanleys Sawmill, is a mill in Charlotte, North Carolina, close to the South Carolina line. They work with oak, hickory, cherry and other wood native to the Carolinas, milling logs to order: rough sawn, surfaced flat on one or both faces, plain-sawn, quarter-sawn or rift-sawn. They keep slabs cut from the same log together as bookmatched sets, run a kiln to dry lumber for furniture work, and also cut fireplace mantles. Bryan, who runs the mill, has been "sawmilling for well over a decade" and holds a Licensed Builder credential in both North and South Carolina. This is not a timber-buying outfit. They do not travel to pick up logs and do not offer portable milling on-site, so you bring the logs to them. They do not cut trees down for anyone either, only mill what arrives at the mill. On value, they are blunt: logs are "usually nothing" unless they are high-grade and already delivered to the sawmill, so this is not a place to call if you are hoping someone will buy standing timber off your land. This suits someone who already has logs cut and ready to haul in and wants them turned into usable lumber, slabs, or mantles, not a landowner still looking for someone to buy, cut, and remove standing timber.
