Whispering Pines Farm Sawmill
About Whispering Pines Farm Sawmill
Whispering Pines Farm Sawmill is a farm-based sawmill and kiln drying business in New Hill, North Carolina, along the Chatham county line. Scott and Laureen run it alongside their hay and timber ground, and they've built three different sawmills on site: a band mill, a swing-blade mill, and a custom slabber they built themselves. What they're known for is oversize and over-length logs, up to 6 feet across and 58 feet long, the kind a lot of ordinary mills can't handle. They work with southern yellow pine, red oak, and magnolia, and they're set up for quarter and rift sawn lumber as well as full-width slabs up to 72 inches, "specializes in milling oversize and over-length logs" as they put it. They also kiln dry lengths up to 43 feet in their own kilns, and offer planing and other millwork once the lumber is cut. They work with logs you already have, milling them at the farm in New Hill or, in some cases, traveling to your site, and turn them into lumber for furniture, flooring, trim, or building projects, including some LEED certified jobs in NC, SC, and VA. Pricing runs on the board foot yield of what comes out, with hourly billing for odd or low-yield milling. Whispering Pines Farm Sawmill fits a landowner who already has logs down, maybe something unusually big or long, and wants them turned into real lumber instead of sold off as a standing stand.
