Parker Bark Company, Inc. is a mulch and soil manufacturer in Rose Hill, North Carolina. This is not a timber buyer or logging outfit. If you have trees down or a tract to sell, this is not the place for that. But if you want to know who takes wood byproducts and turns them into something useful, this is worth knowing about. They make landscape and dyed mulches, potting bark, nursery mixes, certified compost, manufactured topsoil, and certified playground surfacing. Their mulch is shredded pine. They run an 80 acre production facility and deliver by their own fleet within 200 miles, reaching from the Piedmont to the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina, with Duplin County named as an area served. They hold U.S. Composting Council STA certification for their compost and IPEMA certification for their playground surfacing product, PlayCushion. The business started in 1983, when the founder noticed truckloads of bark being thrown away and saw a use for it. It is still family run. New customers are asked to call to start an order rather than fill out a form, since they say they "prefer a conversation." This fits a landowner who already has a landscaper, nursery, or municipality buying bulk mulch or topsoil, not someone trying to sell standing timber or get a tract logged.
