The most valuable logs run from 15 inches up to 34 inches in diameter on the small end; smaller ones are often better used as poles or firewood, and larger ones get cut into slabs instead of boards. Logs need the branches trimmed close and need to be delivered to their log yard. Metal left in a log, nails, screws, fencing, can ruin a saw blade, so clean logs matter to them. Their approach, as they put it: "We talk and listen to customers to understand their requirements. We then formulate a win-win deal." This fits a landowner who already has trees down, or ready to come down, and wants a sawmill to turn those logs into lumber or slabs, rather than someone looking to have standing timber cut and hauled off the land.
