Timber Buyers & Forestry Professionals in Whitewood, SD

Spearfish Forest Products is a sawmill and timber buying business with local operations in Spearfish, South Dakota, run under the Neiman family of mills. Alongside logging and buying standing timber, they also do consulting forestry, so a landowner can get advice, a sale, and the cutting done through the same outfit. Their work centers on pine, including Ponderosa Pine. They cover ground from Northwest Nebraska to Southeastern Montana, with other operations in Hulett, Wyoming, Montrose, Colorado and Gilchrist, Oregon, each tied to a different part of that territory. The company's first mill opened in 1936 in Upton, Wyoming, and they describe themselves as "4th generation family owned." They hold certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative standard. If you're weighing a timber sale, their foresters say they will "provide a free consultation and appraisal of your timber at no charge" before anything moves forward. Their stated approach to the woods themselves, which they call "forest health first," covers thinning for wildfire risk, insect and disease concerns, and wildlife habitat, not just cutting and hauling logs. This fits a landowner with pine timber somewhere between Northwest Nebraska and Southeastern Montana, or near their other yards in Colorado or Oregon, who wants one long-running family company to walk the ground, put a number on the trees, and handle the sale start to finish.
