Hollow Hill Forestry is a family-run timber marketing firm based in North Bennington, Vermont, with a log yard across the line in Jackson, NY. They can purchase your standing timber outright, but their own words put it plainly: "We can purchase standing timber from private landowners but most generally provide brokerage services for timber or logs." That means they combine your logs or timber with other owners' wood to market it for its best use. They handle the usual northeastern hardwoods: hard maple, birch, red oak, white ash, black cherry, soft maple, white oak, aspen, beech, hickory, and basswood, plus softwood like white pine, hemlock, red pine, and spruce. They say their log yard sits in an area "noted for having the best quality maple in the world," and maple is their biggest seller. For a harvest, they arrange insured contractors, mark and appraise the timber, lay out skid trails, and supervise the job. On a timber sale, they run a lump sum bid process, or buy your standing timber outright on a lump sum basis. Logs brought to their yard are bar-code tagged as scaled and graded, and paid for as removed, generally weekly. Beyond timber, they also do boundary marking, forest valuation, wood road and trail building, land clearing, meadow restoration, and wildlife management work like food plots and patch clear cuts.
