Rex Lumber - Bristol
About Rex Lumber - Bristol
Rex Lumber's history page dates the Bristol mill to 1980, when the McRae family, having just sold the original Rex Lumber Company at Graceville, began building a new Southern Yellow Pine sawmill at Bristol under the name North Florida Lumber, Inc. The site says the mill started production in 1981, that sister company North Florida Woodlands, Inc. was formed in 1980 to procure timber for the Bristol mill, and that 1986 brought Apalachee Pole Company, Inc., which the family and employees call APC and which manufactures utility poles and pilings treated with CCA, chromated copper arsenate. The company's own location index lists Bristol as the home of the Bristol Mill, Apalachee Pole Company, Woodlands Timber and Rex Transportation, and its contact page gives the Bristol address and telephone number carried in this listing, along with a named general manager. Rex Lumber describes itself as a fourth-generation, family-owned lumber manufacturer established in the 1920s and running four mills in Florida, Mississippi and Alabama; the company name dates to 1926 in Graceville, so the firm is considerably older than this mill. It states that the McRae family also owns over 16,000 acres of timber land in Florida, Alabama and Georgia, and that its mills use state-of-the-art equipment to turn harvested timber into southern yellow pine lumber with almost no waste. On the buying side, the Woodlands Timber page lists Bristol staff including a procurement manager, a senior procurement forester, a procurement forester, forestry staff and a forestry technician, plus a pole procurement manager and a pole marker, but it publishes no minimum tract size and no buying terms. The mill is recorded in the Primary Forest Products Network directory of the Southern Group of State Foresters as a softwood sawmill in Liberty County. As described on rex-lumber.com, read 23 September 2026.
