About Legacy Forestry Services
Legacy Forestry Services is the forestry practice of Natural Resource Planning Services, Inc. (NRPS) working out of Lake City, listed with the Florida Forest Service as a forest management consultant and recorded there as serving 28 Florida counties. NRPS says it has been providing consulting forestry and natural resource services since 1974, when it was founded by Jack Vogel and Tom Mastin, and works from two Florida offices; the company's own site names the Lake City office at 356 NW Lake City Ave, publishes the (386) 438-5896 number held here, and lists its Lake City forestry staff, among them a principal who is a full member of the Association of Consulting Foresters, several SAF Certified Foresters, a division manager, a field services manager, a GIS specialist and forest technicians. The firm states that its forestry division has over 300,000 acres under management and offers timber inventory and valuation, timber and pine straw sales assistance, GIS mapping and GPS services, reforestation, ecosystem restoration, prescribed burning, forest management plans, timberland management, investment analysis and mine reclamation. Its clients, it says, include private landowners, timberland investment management organizations, conservation organizations, government agencies and municipalities, and forest industry, and its Legacy Wildlife Services division is also based at Lake City, handling hunting lease management and wildlife management consulting in Florida, Georgia and the southeastern United States. Alongside forestry the firm runs real estate, arborist, environmental and appraisal divisions, the last specialising in due diligence and valuation of large timberland ownerships. Can they handle a timber sale?
Selling standing timber properly takes three things. Here's what the state register credits this firm with.
Timber AppraisalAn estimate of what your standing timber is worth in dollars, based on how much there is, its quality, and current prices. When you are selling, settling an estate, dividing property, or need a value for taxes or insurance. What does this mean? → — not listed
works out what your standing timber is worth
Timber Cruise & Volume EstimateA field measurement of your standing trees — their species, sizes, and quality — that adds up to how much wood you actually have. Before you sell, so you go in knowing roughly what is out there rather than taking a buyer's word for it.What does this mean? → — not listed
measures and grades what's actually out there
Timber Sale & Contract AdministrationRunning the sale for you: advertising the timber, taking bids, writing the contract, and overseeing the logging so the agreed terms are met. When you want someone on your side handling the whole sale rather than dealing with buyers and loggers yourself. What does this mean? → — not listed
runs the sale and handles the contract
This firm isn't credited with all three, which doesn't make it a worse forester — plenty specialise in management planning, wildlife or wetlands. It does mean that if your goal is to sell timber, you'd likely need someone else for the part that's missing.
