Dynamic Habitat Solutions describes itself as a faith and family-based land and habitat management company serving landowners across Florida and Alabama from 1800 North Century Boulevard in McDavid; the Florida Forest Service vendor register lists it as covering all 67 Florida counties. Owner Coy McKenna leads the company, and the about page says he spent more than 13 years in law enforcement before following his passion and growing what had been evening and weekend work for landowners into a full-time business. The company sets out a three-step approach: a free consultation to evaluate the land and the owner's goals, a customized management plan built around those goals, a timeline and a budget, then the work itself. For woodland owners the relevant offers are prescribed fire, drum chopping and forestry mulching. The mulching page explains that specialized machinery shreds thick brush, cedar and invasive saplings into a fine layer of ground cover, which keeps topsoil intact and removes the need for hauling or burn piles, and says the company uses it to help private landowners in the Southeast prepare land for future use, improve wildlife visibility and manage timberland health, as well as to take out ladder fuels and underbrush that carry wildfire, open overgrown trails for hunting, recreation or site development, and reclaim choked woodland as open habitat. Pond work fills more of the site than anything else: pond cleaning and weed removal, shoreline and bank repair, leaking ponds and damaged dams, sediment and muck removal to restore depth, water quality testing, aeration systems and decorative fountains, and control of hydrilla, coontail, giant salvinia, duckweed, alligator weed, cattails, pond grass and lily pads. Listed with the Florida Forest Service as a forest management consultant across 67 Florida counties, with aerial and ground herbicide application, prescribed fire, planting services, a plant nursery and native seeding recorded on the register, and a Florida Certified Burner and Florida Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator against the name. On its own site the business presents three divisions, ecosystem restoration, environmental services and property management, and industrial support. It says it was "founded in 2005 by a small team of professionals dedicated to providing our customers quality products in Ecosystem Restoration", with staff who "bring over 100 years of combined experience". Its customers, the company says, "range from small private businesses to large industrial clients", among them state and federal agencies, large infrastructure companies, energy supply and delivery companies and the mining industry; the project it features is erosion control within the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. That erosion-control work is described in terms of silt fence, floc logs, granular soil products, coconut matting, hydroseeding and sodding. Brush removal and mastication are offered for cases where heavy equipment or a prescribed burn is not an option, using rubber-track, rubber-tyre and steel-track carriers and an excavator-mounted brush cutter. Alongside those sit commercial mowing, landscaping and irrigation, bush hog and tractor work, earthwork, excavation and hauling, fencing, pump and pipe crews, and labour crews for plant and field work. On job size the site claims range rather than a floor: "whether your project is one acre or a thousand". Credentials are published against named staff rather than the company, among them FDACS licensed pesticide applicators, a DOF prescribed burn manager, an FDEP qualified stormwater inspector, FFWCC gopher tortoise authorised agents, MSHA Part 48 instructors and an FAA UAS pilot, and the firm says it maintains corporate compliance with MSHA, OSHA and EPA regulations. Legacy Appraisal Services works from High Springs and is listed with the Florida Forest Service for timberland and farmland appraisal across all sixty-seven Florida counties, but its own site aims much wider and much higher up the ownership scale. The headline reads 'Specialists in All Aspects of Timberland Investment Valuation', and the firm describes itself as specialising in the valuation and financial analysis of the timberland asset across the entire Southeast, Northeast, Appalachian states and Lake States regions of the United States, as well as Central and South America, with region pages for each. In practice that covers quarterly, annual and biannual valuations for investment performance reporting, identifying and valuing higher and better use opportunities, cash flow modelling and harvest scheduling on acquisitions and dispositions, financial optimisation and sensitivity analysis, and market valuations of undivided family interests for federal gift tax, estate tax compliance, intergenerational transfer and partitioning. The about page says the firm routinely values conservation easements, mitigation banks and lease fee and leasehold ownership, and extends to mineral income and carbon credits where a portfolio includes them. The clients it names are largely institutional, among them timberland investment management organisations, trust funds and endowments, conservation groups and land trusts, forest products companies, banks and wealth managers, pension and hedge funds, estate lawyers and government agencies, alongside private landowners. Staff are described as MAI and certified general appraisers licensed in every state the firm works in, with a combined 50 years of experience in the forest products industry; Scott Brodbeck, Jesse Studley and Scott Twillmann are the three people named. MLM Private Forester, Inc. is a forestry consulting firm based in Monticello, Florida. It handles timber sales and forest management plans, and it pairs that work with wildlife management for owners who hunt or want better game habitat. On the timber side, it can estimate how much timber you have and what it is worth, assess the market and time the harvest, and prepare and market the timber sales packages. It develops the sale contract, obtains the necessary permits, and supervises the logging to make sure it follows the contract. Other work includes boundary line location, timber cruising, prescribed burning, site preparation, tree planting and timber health checks. Planting is done mostly in winter, most often after December 1 and before March 15. For timber health, the firm uses aerial and ground surveillance to look for outbreaks. Its foresters are "careful to protect the landowner's investments" and aim to leave the property in good condition for replanting. Wildlife work covers trophy deer management, waterfowl and duck management, turkey management, food plots and hunting lease management. Its credentials include a Georgia Registered Forester, a Florida Certified Burner and a Florida Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator. Listed with the Florida Forest Service as a forest management consultant across 67 Florida counties, offering silvicultural and agri-services, consulting, land and forest management, wildlife management and property management, with a Florida Certified Burner and a Florida Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator recorded against the name. The company's own site fills that in. It bills itself as "Ecofriendly Forestry and Agricultural Services" and states a mission "to help conserve our environment through projects that help to ensure the success of responsible land use and a healthy ecosystem". Its account of its beginning is that the firm "has been working toward restoring Florida to a healthy ecosystem since 2005", when owner Brannen Willis was given the job of restoring a Central Florida conservation area and more requests followed. The site lists a Herbicide Commercial Applicator License and Florida Prescribed Burn certification against Willis's name, and describes its aquatic applicators as certified and licensed by the State of Florida. The published service list is specific: site preparation, forestry mulching, roller drum chopping, land clearing, brush mulching and mowing, bush hogging, prescribed burning with fireline work and state burn permitting, reforestation, habitat and environmental restoration, aquatic management, licensed herbicide application, exotic species treatment, biomass harvesting, native planting, food plots, farm and forestry road building, and loader, dozer and discing work. On timber the company says it manages the sale for the landowner: designating the trees to be cut, putting an inventory to area loggers for competitive bid, preparing a sale inventory of board footage, species and tree numbers, and administering and negotiating the contract between timber buyer and landowner. It also produces maps from GPS field data, including timber inventory and wetland delineation, and says private landowners can use its forest management plans to satisfy tax requirements. The site says the firm works for public and private landowners "in all of Florida and Southern Georgia". As described on promisehabitatservices.com, read 23 September 2026.

Southern Habitats is a native plant nursery and habitat restoration contractor based at Greenville, listed with the Florida Forest Service as serving all sixty-seven Florida counties, though on its own site the only region it names is the Southeast generally. The services page puts the work plainly: 'We specialize in collecting and propagating southeastern herbaceous native plants and seeds. We use this material for projects involving groundcover restoration, wetland mitigation, erosion control, habitat improvement, aesthetic treatments and more.' The same page lists wild seed collection and processing, direct seeding, live plant installation, contract growing, bioengineering, native plant and seed sales, herbicide application, a licensed nursery, mowing and brush clearing, and wildlife food plots. Its stated speciality is fire-adapted ecosystems, and the sequence it describes is deliberate: restore the native grass base first, because grasses carry the fine fuel a thorough prescribed burn needs, then introduce wildflowers, forbs and legumes once the grass stand has taken. Seed is wild harvested from donor sites near the project, mechanically for the grass bulk and by hand for many wildflowers, then cleaned, tested and treated for dormancy before planting. The business says it grows hundreds of thousands of native grass and wildflower plugs in its nursery, keeps many species in field cultivation for seed production, and offers wild-collected and field-grown seed mixes for wet or dry sites, with published species lists for upland clayhills and sandhills, flatwoods and shallow wetlands. Separate pages address hunters managing quail, turkey, deer and dove ground, golf courses converting out-of-play areas, city and state parks, farmers working under EQIP and backyard gardeners, and the hunting page cites 25 years of experience managing groundcover for quail. Bare root switchgrass is described as its most versatile product. It is a member of the Florida Wildflower Seed and Plant Growers Association. TerraWorx Land Group, Inc (TLG) describes itself as "a multi-disciplinary company whose staff has been offering our clients a multitude of ecological, environmental, land management and property services for over 25 years," adding that "Paramount is our ability to provide creative and innovative ideas in an effort to resolve a myriad of issues, design challenges, and regulatory concerns that our clients often encounter." The home page carries the line "Other's will tell you what you can't do, We tell you what you can." Its services page groups the work under three headings. Ecological services: preliminary ecological assessments including GIS and LIDAR evaluations, wetland assessment and delineation, protected species assessment and surveys, regulatory permitting covering both State Environmental Resource Permitting and Federal 404 wetland permitting, wetland mitigation bank design, permitting and management, mitigation design and planting, invasive species control, and "project design alternatives to maximize site use while minimizing mitigation/construction costs." Environmental services: Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II ESAs and testing, environmental remediation and clean-up, brownfields and incentive programs, and development design alternatives. Land management services: "heavy under brushing utilizing skid steer mounted grinding head mowers," herbicide application, removal of invasives such as Chinese tallow and Brazilian pepper, installation of native plant material for habitat restoration, timber management and planning, wildlife habitat design and management, and Natural Resource Conservation Service grant programs. Its image gallery, captioned as "some of our highlighted services," shows before-and-after mowing and prescribed burning. The only geography the company publishes is two offices — 88 Riberia St. Suite 360, St. Augustine, FL 32084 and 110N Gross Rd, Kingsland, GA 31548 — with no service area, counties or radius named anywhere; the home page is titled "Environmental Consulting | TerraWorx Land Group | United States." No founding year is given (the "over 25 years" is a staff-experience claim), no staff member is named, no certification or licence number appears, and no minimum tract size is published. Nothing on the site says the company buys standing timber: "timber management and planning" is one line among roughly twenty. This listing sits under forestry consultants; the company presents itself first as an ecological and environmental consultancy and a land-clearing and mitigation contractor, so it should not be read as a timber-side forestry practice. They describe themselves as a local sustainable Florida sawmill, and their work centers on "salvaging wood that would otherwise be thrown away." The founder, Stephen Cummins, started the business after a friend who clears trees was burning them on site or hauling them to the dump. They take wood that has been storm damaged, struck by lightning, fallen down, or cleared from a lot for a new home. The services they list are custom milling, mobile milling, kiln drying, and log recycling. Their main product is live edge slabs, dried or wet. They also sell wet hardwood, kiln dried hardwood, dimensional wood, soft wood, and firewood. They name eleven common Florida species, including live oak, cherry, pecan, hickory, cedar, and rainbow poplar. They offer a free consultation to talk through what you need. Bole and Branches suits a landowner with fallen, storm-damaged, or cleared wood who wants it milled into lumber or live edge slabs close to home. From boleandbranches.com, read 18 October 2026.

Gator Timber and Land is a timber and land buyer working out of 1520 Highway 17 North at Palatka, and it tells landowners on its own site that it will help whether they want to sell or buy land or standing timber. Its Buy/Sell Timber page calls the firm 'a major purchaser of timber in the Northeast Florida area, purchasing over four million dollars in stumpage annually', and names the counties it primarily operates in as Putnam, Clay, St. Johns, Flagler, Volusia, Duval, Baker, Bradford, Alachua, Marion, Union and Columbia, overlapping but not identical with the sixteen Florida counties the buyer lists with the Florida Forest Service. The About page widens that to buying and selling timber and land in North Florida and South Georgia. The same Buy/Sell page states a floor twice over: the minimum acreage for purchase is 20 acres of well stocked pine timber. Cutting is contracted rather than done in house, by nine contract crews the company says have close ties to it, with site preparation and replanting of cutover land handled by contractors who have worked for the firm for many years, and the site states that all of its loggers are Master Logger certified and take annual training. The replant page says that for every tree harvested another is planted. The history is long: it began as Springside Lumber Company, a mill west of Palatka started by Kelley Smith, Sr. in 1945, became a timber dealership in 1957, was bought by Kelley Smith, Jr. in 1972, was owned by Union Camp from 1978 until Smith bought it back in 1995, and took its present name in 2003. Kelley Smith, Jr. and Stan Browning own and operate it today, and the company is a member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. As described on gatortimber.com, read 23 September 2026.

Pulp & Paper

The Southern Group of State Foresters' Primary Forest Products Network register lists this as a pulp and paper mill at 160 County Road 216 in Palatka, taking softwood, with Putnam County as its home county. What the company publishes about itself is corporate rather than local: gp.com carries no page for the Palatka mill, and its locations page offers only a state-by-state selector — Florida is on the list, but the site names no facility inside it. What the site does say is about the owner. Georgia-Pacific dates itself to 1927, when it was founded in Augusta, Georgia, as the Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company, a hardwood lumber wholesaler operating five sawmills in the South; it took the Georgia-Pacific Corporation name in 1956 and moved its headquarters from Portland, Oregon, to Atlanta in 1982. Koch acquired the company in 2005, and the site states plainly that Georgia-Pacific is a Koch, Inc. company, privately held and wholly owned. It counts more than 30,000 employees, more than 150 locations worldwide, locations in nearly 30 states and $15 billion invested into its operations since 2014, and it groups its business into building products, cellulose, consumer products, GP PRO, packaging, pine solutions and recycling — the cellulose line being the one a pulp mill such as this sits within. On stewardship the company says it works to maximise recycling, reduce energy use and set the standard in sustainable forestry, and its history page notes a 2009 Sustainable Forestry Initiative President's Award. Only one Florida item appears anywhere in that history: the company says it closed its Foley Cellulose mill in Perry in 2023, a different site from this one. Nothing on the pages read gives delivery terms, specifications or a buying contact for Palatka. As described on gp.com, read 23 September 2026.

SawmillTimber PurchasingTimber HarvestingLumber Manufacturing

Great South Timber & Lumber, LLC runs two operations in Lake City: a corporate and procurement office at 517 SE Baya Drive, and a sawmill at 1135 FL-100, which is the address carried on this listing. Its about text says the company has been in the wood products business since 1985, with a procurement division that purchases and harvests southern yellow pine timber and a sawmill that manufactures southern yellow pine lumber. The professional staff within the procurement division, the site says, purchases and harvests southern yellow pine for the lumber, pulp and paper industries in the north Florida area; three foresters, Austin Thrasher, Charles S. Corbett and Chase Clark, are listed under procurement alongside procurement manager J. Russ Hannon, which is the group a landowner with pine to sell would be dealing with. The sawmill side supplies the roof truss, wood treating and pallet manufacturing industries, with a focus on dimension machine stress rated (MSR) 2x4; the company says it also produces 1x4, 2x6 and 4x4 products. Robert P. Cook is named president and Robert P. Cook, Jr. vice president, and the staff listing runs to sixteen named people across corporate, procurement and the mill, including a green end manager, a dry end manager and quality control. Under a heading reading 'Proud Members of the Following' the company names the Florida Forestry Association, the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau and the SE Lumber Manufacturer's Association, Inc. Loncala, Inc. owns and manages roughly 23,000 acres of timber and agricultural land in north Florida, with every operation run from a headquarters built in 2007 on its ranch property at High Springs. Its about page lays out the whole arc: chartered in April 1920 as Loncala Phosphate Company, it tried turpentine, tung oil groves, building materials, cattle and crop farming before soft phosphate operations beginning in 1940 funded the land clearing and site preparation that supported a reforestation program started in 1950. Phosphate mining ceased in February 2006 after 85 years. Timber harvesting began in the early 1960s; the company says harvest from its own lands has grown from 20,000 tons a year in the early 1980s to 150,000 tons today, and the harvesting operation overall from 50,000 tons to roughly 200,000 tons. Its forestry page states that Loncala grows and harvests pine from company lands for about half the year and spends the remainder producing timber purchased from private landowners or working as a contract producer for industrial timber companies, and that it owns and harvests from Hamilton County on the Georgia line south to below Marion County in central Florida. It says it is actively seeking timberland owners interested in selling timber and will appraise standing timber at no cost, through its forester Tim Odom. Felling is done with a feller buncher, whose operator sorts to pulpwood, large and small chip-n-saw, ply logs and poles; trees are limbed through a gate, skidded to a ramp and sorted again by a log loader. The company holds the Master Logger designation, adheres to Best Management Practices, notes Florida's 1999 Outstanding Logger of the Year award and a 2000 Southeastern Region Logger of the Year title, and employs 15 to 20 full-time people across land management, farming and logging. As described on loncala.com, read 23 September 2026.

Southern Artificial Tree Supply, Inc. is a family owned and operated business in Deland, Florida, at 32827 SR 44. It has supplied natural wood products since 1997. Its customers are makers, and the work it describes is selling wood, not buying standing timber or logging. It handles Dragonwood, myrtle wood, and bamboo, among other woods. Its products go into the construction of silk trees, and it also supplies the pet bird trade with perches and bird toys in a variety of sizes. Each customer's designs differ, so the team works closely with each one on the details of their project. Shipping is worldwide. Its listed Florida counties are Baker, Bay, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Citrus, Lake, Marion, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. The office number is 386-804-3194. This suits a maker of silk trees or pet bird toys who needs natural wood, not a landowner looking to sell or log a stand of timber. From bogusbranches.com, read 18 October 2026.

Questions landowners ask

How many timber buyers and foresters serve Marion County?

65 businesses are listed for Marion County: 32 consulting foresters and 33 buyers, loggers and mills. 6 of them have offices in the county.

How much is my timber worth in Marion County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. UF/IFAS Florida Land Steward, summarising Timber Mart-South publishes a quarterly Timber Price Update, state-wide average pine stumpage in $/ton, with no hardwood series published, which tells you what the market is doing, not what your tract holds. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

What stumpage value means →

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Marion County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

Do I need a forestry consultant? →

Do I need a permit to cut timber in Florida?

Florida has no statewide permit and no notification to harvest timber on your own land. The forestry chapters of the state code govern the Forest Service and state-owned land, not a private harvest, and state law puts normal silviculture outside the environmental resource permit that otherwise covers work affecting wetlands and surface water. One filing is easy to mistake for a notification and is not one: the Notice of Intent to Implement is a single voluntary enrolment in the state's silviculture Best Management Practices, filed once rather than for each harvest, and what it buys is a legal presumption that the operation meets state water quality standards. Florida's BMPs sit between voluntary and mandatory — the manual is adopted by rule rather than published as advice, following it is elective until you enrol, and once enrolled a failure to implement is referred to the Department of Environmental Protection. Counties and cities are held back, but only conditionally: they may not regulate or charge a fee for a bona fide farm operation on land carrying the agricultural classification where the state's BMPs are being implemented. Miss any of those three and the local tree or land-clearing ordinance applies in full, so check with your county before work starts. Two things worth knowing before you sign: Florida does not license or register foresters, so a forester's credentials here are professional rather than statutory; and Florida's dealer bonding law, which lets a produce grower claim against a buyer's bond, expressly excludes timber and forest products, so your contract is the only protection you have against a buyer who does not pay.

What is timber worth in Marion County?

No price series is published for Marion County on its own. Florida's latest published stumpage figures (UF/IFAS Florida Land Steward (summarising Timber Mart-South), Q1 2026) put pine sawtimber at $29 per ton. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.
