About Loncala, Inc
Loncala, Inc. owns and manages roughly 23,000 acres of timber and agricultural land in north Florida, with every operation run from a headquarters built in 2007 on its ranch property at High Springs. Its about page lays out the whole arc: chartered in April 1920 as Loncala Phosphate Company, it tried turpentine, tung oil groves, building materials, cattle and crop farming before soft phosphate operations beginning in 1940 funded the land clearing and site preparation that supported a reforestation program started in 1950. Phosphate mining ceased in February 2006 after 85 years. Timber harvesting began in the early 1960s; the company says harvest from its own lands has grown from 20,000 tons a year in the early 1980s to 150,000 tons today, and the harvesting operation overall from 50,000 tons to roughly 200,000 tons. Its forestry page states that Loncala grows and harvests pine from company lands for about half the year and spends the remainder producing timber purchased from private landowners or working as a contract producer for industrial timber companies, and that it owns and harvests from Hamilton County on the Georgia line south to below Marion County in central Florida. It says it is actively seeking timberland owners interested in selling timber and will appraise standing timber at no cost, through its forester Tim Odom. Felling is done with a feller buncher, whose operator sorts to pulpwood, large and small chip-n-saw, ply logs and poles; trees are limbed through a gate, skidded to a ramp and sorted again by a log loader. The company holds the Master Logger designation, adheres to Best Management Practices, notes Florida's 1999 Outstanding Logger of the Year award and a 2000 Southeastern Region Logger of the Year title, and employs 15 to 20 full-time people across land management, farming and logging. As described on loncala.com, read 23 September 2026.
