Forest Resource Consultants is a forestry consulting firm in Macon, Georgia, and it has been working with landowners since 1970. Its certified foresters handle forest management plans, timber harvesting, reforestation, wildlife habitat management, and prescribed burns. The firm also does timber valuation, buying, selling, and exchanging timberland, and hunting lease administration. It lists Bibb County and describes its work as across the Southeast. The stated minimum is 50 acres. The firm says it builds a "tailored strategy" for each property, and it says timber value depends on the size of the timbered area, access, topography, and local mill demand. Its listed credentials are Certified Forester and Certified Real Estate Appraiser, along with membership in the Association of Consulting Foresters and the Society of American Foresters. On selling timber, the firm explains the two common routes. A lump sum pays you up front for all the timber in the sale. Pay-as-cut pays you as trees come out, based on volume and product type. It warns that poor product sorting, such as chip-n-saw sold as pulpwood, can leave money on the table. This firm suits owners of at least 50 acres who want help choosing how to sell, working out what their timber is worth, or handling an estate, appraisal, or hunting lease on their land. Dobbs Equipment is a John Deere and Wirtgen Group equipment dealer with a branch at 6601 Skipper Road in Macon, Georgia. It sells, rents, finances and services construction and forestry machines. It does not buy timber or do logging, so it will not buy your standing trees or cut them for you. The forestry line covers John Deere forwarders, skidders, swing machines, harvesters and feller bunchers, along with Waratah harvester heads. You can buy and finance a machine, or rent one for a single job, and the rental can be partly applied toward purchase. The business also carries a Georgia Master Timber Harvester certification and employs John Deere-certified technicians. Repairs go through those technicians, who use "genuine John Deere OEM parts." They can also come to a job site for emergency repairs. The business has 29 locations across Florida, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and its Macon branch serves Bibb County. This suits a landowner who needs a machine or its repair, not one who wants to sell timber. From dobbsequipment.com, read 17 October 2026.

Questions landowners ask

How many timber buyers and foresters serve Bibb County?

21 businesses are listed for Bibb County: 12 consulting foresters and 9 buyers, loggers and mills. 21 of them have offices in the county.

How much is my timber worth in Bibb County?

Nobody can tell you what your timber is worth without walking it. Value depends on the species, the size and grade of the trees, how thickly they stand, the ground conditions and how easily a logger can reach them. University of Georgia Extension publishes an annual timber situation and outlook report with recent quarterly figures, which tells you what the market is doing, not what your tract holds. Anyone who quotes you a figure without seeing the land is guessing, and a guess in that direction is rarely in your favour.

What stumpage value means →

Do I need a forestry consultant to sell timber in Bibb County?

You do not have to use one. A consulting forester works for you rather than the buyer, marks the timber, runs a sealed-bid sale and typically charges a percentage of the sale. Research from several state extension services has found that timber sold through a consultant often returns enough more to cover the fee, though results vary by tract and by market. The decision usually turns on the size of the sale and whether you have sold timber before.

Do I need a forestry consultant? →

Do I need a permit to cut timber in Georgia?

Georgia has no statewide permit for cutting timber on your own land, and state law forbids a county to require one or to charge a fee for a timber harvest notification. What a county may require is the notification itself: where its ordinance calls for one, the harvester files it before entering the property if possible and no later than 24 hours after entering, and the county may ask for a bond of up to $5,000 against damage to its roads. Not every county has an ordinance, so check with yours before work starts. Georgia's Best Management Practices are not a permit programme, but following them is how a harvest stays clear of the water-quality law that is enforceable.

What is timber worth in Bibb County?

No price series is published for Bibb County on its own. Georgia's latest published stumpage figures (University of Georgia Extension, Q3 2025) put mixed hardwood sawtimber at $26–$32 per ton. What your own timber brings depends on the species, the size and amount of it, and how far it is from a mill. A timber cruise by a forester settles it.
