Gable Lumber
About Gable Lumber
Gable Lumber is a small manufacturing company in Midland, Michigan, started by Don and Dan Gable in 1994 after they bought a small planer and molder. Hardwoods were the main focus for the first ten years, and softwoods like pine and cedar were added later. Today the work is split evenly between the two. This is a mill, not a place that buys standing timber or sends out a logging crew. They take wood and rough lumber and turn it into finished product: "knotty pine and cedar paneling," hardwood flooring in red oak, white oak, pine, hickory, coffee nut, and maple, moldings, stair treads, and custom-dry lumber. They also offer kiln drying and surface planing for rough lumber, and will work with lumber a customer brings them. Their paneling runs through Eastern White Pine and Western Red Cedar, kiln dried to a moisture content between 6 and 8 percent, with "tongue and groove on the sides, and the ends are matched," so two rows can go up at once with less waste. They serve Midland County, working out of their shop on N. Eastman Rd. in Midland. This fits a landowner who already has logs cut or rough lumber in hand and wants it turned into paneling, flooring, or trim, not someone still trying to find a buyer for timber standing in the woods.
