Knothole Sawmill, LLC is a portable sawmill service in Brookhaven, Mississippi, run by Lynn Davis, Master Sawyer. It brings the mill to your site and sets it up near your logs, so the logs are turned into lumber where they lie. The service covers Lincoln County. The mill saws hardwood or softwood logs up to 20 feet long and 36 inches in diameter. It also saws Eastern Red Cedar and cedar lumber, and it can cut to custom dimensions. Lynn has been sawing lumber since 2002 and is a member of the Wood-Mizer One Million Board Foot Club, having sawn over two million board feet. The aim is "turning your logs into lumber at your location." Logs should lie side by side so the mill can saw them all without moving. The ground should be relatively level, or the logs should sit uphill from the mill if there is a slope. Sawing is usually priced per board foot. Red cedar, special dimension lumber and beams are usually priced by the hour. A setup fee may apply for travel over 20 miles. A $45 blade charge applies if the blade hits metal, most often nails, screws or wire. Payment is by cash or personal check when the job is finished.
