About RSG
RSG is a sawmill and timber buying business listed in Canby, Oregon. On its own pages it goes by RSG Forest Products, with mills in Kalama, Washington, and in Estacada and Molalla, Oregon, plus an office in Mist, Oregon. The company works across Northwestern Oregon and Southwestern Washington, and in Oregon that reach covers Clackamas County. For a landowner with standing timber, RSG offers contract harvest services that cover the whole job: timber sale administration, hiring the logging and roadbuilding contractor, paying the forest excise tax, handling permits, marketing the logs, and replanting afterward. The species they take are Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, and Hem-fir. On their own pages they say they are "very interested in maintaining a strong private forest base" in the area they work, and that a landowner can count on them to "get the best value for your standing timber." RSG Forest Products started in 1971 in Mist, Oregon, with the purchase and expansion of the Olympic sawmill. It has since grown into a family-owned company with its own manufacturing capacity and shipping arrangements. The harvest side is handled by a Harvest Manager, John Schmit, who has more than 25 years managing logging operations in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. This fits a landowner who wants one company to buy the logs, run the logging crew, and handle the paperwork and replanting from start to finish, rather than lining up separate buyers, loggers, and foresters themselves.
