About Mill on Wheels

Mill on Wheels is a mobile sawmill based in Ellenboro, North Carolina, run by Chris and Reina Carroll. Instead of you hauling logs anywhere, Chris brings the saw mill to your property, mills your logs on site, and stacks the finished lumber right there for you. He mills oak, cedar, and pine, and can handle logs up to 32 inches in diameter and 18 and a half feet long. The work goes through steps: you talk through what you have and what you want to make, Chris may need a site visit to size up the job, you get a written estimate, a deposit holds your spot in the queue since they usually book three to four weeks out, then Chris mills on site and stacks the lumber to air dry properly. Alongside milling, they also do land clearing, site prep, debris hauling, and project consulting, helping landowners figure out what their trees are worth turning into before any cutting happens. They've been doing this work for over 10 years, mainly in Western NC, the Piedmont area of NC, Upstate SC, and Eastern TN, with named towns including Charlotte, Fort Mill, Hickory, Morganton, Greenville SC and Simpsonville SC. Chris holds Woodmizer's Million Boardfoot designation. There's no stated minimum acreage or job size, but this isn't a timber sale operation buying standing trees. Chris says it plainly: "Instead of bringing your logs to US, we bring the saw mill to YOU, mill your logs and stack the lumber on your site." This one suits a landowner who already has logs on the ground, or standing trees they plan to fell themselves, and wants them turned into usable lumber on their own property rather than sold off as timber.
