About Textruss, Inc.

Textruss, Inc. manufactures and supplies wood roof and floor trusses from 12201 Dorsett Road in Austin, designing and making truss systems for residential and commercial clients in the Austin area and selling primarily in Central Texas. Its own account of the work ranges from the simplest designs through multifamily projects and high-end residential design to large commercial structures. The history page dates the business to 15 October 1970, when W.C. “Bill” Snow cleared one and three-quarters acres of brushy land near Austin and located the slab for the first building, with Jimmy Youngquist and Roscoe C. Morris as co-founders; the company was incorporated in 1971, Youngquist sold his stock in 1978, and a complete reorganisation followed on 16 July 1982 when Morris sold his. A further change of ownership in January 2000 brought in Ben Doyle as president and general manager, Allen Kalina as secretary and treasurer, Marvin Hale as vice-president and sales manager and Chuck Prasek as vice-president over the office and design. The site now covers nearly eight acres, with a two-storey office building of about 3,000 square feet, two manufacturing facilities totalling 30,000 square feet and lumber sheds, and the company reports fifty employees, many with fifteen to thirty years' service. It began with roof trusses and now produces floor trusses as well, uses southern pine exclusively, and runs its own fleet of four trucks for delivery, saying a Textruss man goes out immediately if problems arise on a builder's site. Memberships listed are the Austin Builders Association, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the United States Chamber of Commerce, the BBB, TMAT, TCABA and TMTA.
