Matcek Sawmill Company is a father and son team in Franklin, Texas, that turns logs into rough sawn lumber. They run a mobile sawmill that works on your property, and they also mill logs at their shop at 1362 Wylie Lane, by appointment only. They started in 2013 and have since added an LT40 hydraulic mill and a kiln to dry lumber. They serve Robertson, Limestone, Leon, Madison, Brazos, Burleson, Milam and Falls counties, and the surrounding area. Their mill cuts logs up to 20 feet long and 36 inches across, or 28 inches for slabbing. The species they list are post oak, black oak, pecan, mesquite, walnut and pine. On site, the mill is $125 an hour with an 8-hour minimum, plus $3.85 a mile one way and $35 for each blade change. The kiln rents at $30 a day with a $100 loading fee, and they note they take no responsibility for warping or checking as the wood dries. They also sell rough sawn lumber when they have it in stock. They do not cut standing trees or limb fallen trees. Your logs need to be felled, limbed and staged where their mill can reach them. You supply a tractor to move the logs, a trailer or a nearby spot to stack the lumber, and at least one helper. In their words, "We can make your downed trees into usable lumber."
