Satterwhite Log Homes

About Satterwhite Log Homes

Satterwhite Log Homes, headquartered at 8405 US-259 in Longview, Texas, describes itself as "one of America's leading producers of log homes and log cabins," built from dead standing timber "for homeowners who value quality and enjoy the beauty of nature." The company traces its start to Sam Satterwhite, who left college in 1973 and began building his first log home near Henderson, Texas in late 1974 after a friend in the timber business asked, "Sam, if you can build something as different as an A-frame, how about building me a log home?" Travonda Satterwhite joined the business at its start, drew the early floor plans and today continues to lead the company, which calls itself a family business. The site says Satterwhite has been in business "for almost 50 years," that "tens of thousands of families have built with Satterwhite," and claims an "A+ Reputation of Trust." Logs are milled from dead-standing Engelmann Spruce from higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains, sourced primarily from U.S. National Forests and bought from the Forest Service since 1983; the company states "we avoid cutting green or living trees" and defines dry as "below 17% moisture content all the way through." Milling began in Gypsum, Colorado, moved to Gunnison, Utah in 1997 (a 100-plus acre log yard, mill and office), and a further sawmill was built at Chama, New Mexico in 2016. Buyers choose among three options, "We Build It" (materials and labor to dry-in a constructed shell), "You Build It" (a materials package of house logs, framing lumber, plywood, doors and windows) and "Logs Only." Longview holds a 16,000-square-foot headquarters, two model homes, showrooms, a log home lumberyard, a specialty shop for mantels, tables and custom cutting, warehouses, mill and distribution; an office and model home opened at Ellijay, Georgia in 2006. Offices are open Monday through Saturday. As described on satterwhite-log-homes.com, read 23 September 2026.
