River City Sawmill
About River City Sawmill
River City Sawmill is a locally owned and operated sawmill and custom woodwork shop in Wichita, Kansas. It mills logs into lumber and live-edge slabs, dries the wood, and builds finished pieces from it. The owner is Eric Means. If you have logs, the mill can come to your property and set up on site with a Wood-Mizer LT40hd portable bandsaw, or you can haul the logs to their yard in Wichita. Sawmilling is $100 an hour, and that covers loading and unloading your logs, setup, milling, and stacking. Kiln drying starts at $1.75 per board foot, and they also offer air drying and slab flattening. The species they mention include black walnut, white oak, red oak, sycamore, hackberry, honey locust, pecan, ash, mulberry, maple, cedar, and osage orange. The shop began by salvaging trees that would otherwise go to the landfill or a burn pile, mostly ones that had to come down for a hazard or disease. Since then they have started selectively harvesting trees to help maintain certain parcels of land. Custom work includes dining tables, river tables, bar tops, mantles, barn doors, and countertops, and every custom build starts with a free estimate. Their milling rate comes with "No hidden fees, no surprises." This suits a landowner who wants logs from their own place milled and dried close to home, perhaps turned into a table or a mantle.
