Independent Stave Company
About Independent Stave Company
Independent Stave Company is a family-owned cooperage company in Stevenson, Alabama, in Jackson. It has been operating since 1912 and says it reaches customers in more than 40 countries. Its main trade is buying timber, and it also works as a sawmill and offers forestry consulting. The work covers log buying and selling, log procurement, timber harvest, and forestry and land management. The company looks for white oak and names "stave quality oak logs" as a focus, along with other hardwood species. Its sustainable forestry policy asks every supplier to follow water quality best management practices and to have at least one qualified logger on each harvest site. It holds certification to the SFI Fiber Sourcing and Chain of Custody Standard and also lists PEFC among its credentials. The minimum acreage shown is 8,016 forested acres. That is the smallest job the company shows it has done, a tract it bought near Somerset, Kentucky. The figure comes from that job, not from a stated policy. It suits a landowner with oak or other hardwood stands who wants one firm to buy logs, handle the harvest, and advise on managing the land. From independentstavecompany.com, read 3 October 2026.
