Buchan Sawmill, Inc. is a family timber business in New Haven, Indiana. It buys standing timber from landowners, logs it with its own crews, and saws it at its own mill. Dan and Luanne Buchan started Buchan Logging in 1985, and the sawmill followed in 1991. The firm is licensed, bonded, and insured, and Buchan has been named Indiana Logger of the Year three times, in 1997, 2008, and 2016. It is located in the heart of Northern Indiana's Walnut and White Oak regions and serves Clinton County. It buys standing timber in walnut, white and red oak, hickory, hard and soft maple, cherry, poplar, and basswood, along with other hardwood species. Buchan puts it this way: "There is no job too big or too small." Its own foresters mark the trees, and its own cutters and equipment do the harvest, using selective cutting and land management services aimed at forest health and wildlife. Its markets reach across the United States and around the world. The mill saws thick stock, walnut, white and red oak, grade lumber, construction lumber, and cants. Logs are debarked and scanned so the mill can get the best yield from each one.
