About Joseph’s Sawmill Company
Joseph’s Sawmill Company is a small woodworking shop and sawmill in Dallas, South Dakota. Joseph Laprath started it in 2020, when he was 14 years old, after ordering a Norwood LM29 sawmill and setting it up with help from his family. The shop makes finished pieces from walnut, oak, pine and cedar, including cutting boards, tables, decorative items such as coasters and napkin holders, and slabs of wood. Slabs can be cut to any size as long as they are no wider than 34 inches, and they can come with a live edge. Tables are built to fit the buyer, with a choice of legs and wood. Cutting boards come in many shapes and sizes, with a handle or a juice groove if you want one. Joseph also takes custom orders and says he is "open for new ideas." He sells at local Farmers Markets and has sold larger quantities to major businesses in the state. He has also won FFA contests. He is willing to work with anyone who sends an order his way, and orders are usually done in about a month, depending on when they come in. The shop serves Tripp County, and you can call (605) 831-0243. It suits a landowner who wants a finished table, cutting board or slab made from walnut, oak, pine or cedar and can wait about a month for it. From josephsawmill.weebly.com, read 10 October 2026.
